Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) is a corporate body established under the Energy Regulatory Act No. 20 of 2004 as the Energy Sector Wide Regulator. Our mandate is to regulate the energy sector in Malawi in a fair, transparent, efficient and cost effective manner for the benefit of the consumers and operators. We are located in 2nd floor of Development House in City Centre, Lilongwe, Malawi.

Update on Trends in Economic Fundamentals and Their Impact on Electricity Tariffs under ATAF as at 21st April 2016.

MERA granted a tariff increase to ESCOM on 6th February 2016 based on the automatic tariff adjustment formula (ATAF). At that time, the exchange rate and inflation were at MK732.12/US$ and 24.9%, respectively. As at 21st April 2016, these fundamentals were at MK692.50/US$ and 23.4%, respectively. These changes resulted into ATAF outcome as below:-
