REVISION OF THE RETAIL PRICE OF LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LPG)

The Authority has learnt that in his budget presentation to Parliament on Monday, 9th September 2019, the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development announced new tax measures for Customs and Excise which became effective on the midnight of 9th September, 2019.  Among the measures include introduction of a zero rate Value Added Tax (VAT) on LPG and gas cylinders. Previously, LPG attracted VAT at a rate of 16.5%. Therefore, introduction of a zero rate has necessitated a downward revision of the maximum allowed retail price of LPG as follows:

Current Maximum LPG Retail Price (MWK/Kg)

Recommended Maximum LPG Retail Price (MWK/Kg)

% Change

2,048.56

 1,744.75

 -17.41

All consumers who purchased LPG at a price of K2,048.56 after the effective date of amendments to the Customs and Excise (Tariffs) order are free to claim the excess amounts paid to LPG dealers upon production of a valid receipt.

All operators are required to sell LPG at a price not exceeding the recommended maximum retail price.
